Commissioner Danny Salas is a graduate of Los Lunas High School. He spent 36 years in law enforcement. He has college degrees in Administration of Justice and Criminology. He spent 4 years working as a police officer with the City of Albuquerque. He then was appointed as a Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service. In this position he worked criminal investigations related to counterfeit currency, forgery, and intelligence investigations. He spent many years working on protective related responsibilities and supervised the Los Angeles Counterfeit Squad prior to retiring after 21 years. During his career he received numerous Special Achievement Awards in addition to the Albert Gallatin Award which is the U.S. Treasury's highest career service award.

After retiring from the Secret Service, he was appointed to HUD's Office of Inspector General. During this career he was the Special Agent-in-Charge of field offices in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Arlington, Texas. He was a member of the Senior Executive Service and completed all course requirements at the Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia. After 11 years at this agency, he retired.
